Company Overview
BorgWarner is a global company that develops innovative and sustainable electrification solutions. With operations in 22 countries, BorgWarner has been supplying technology to nearly every major automotive OEM for over 130 years. As the demand for eco-friendly mobility continues to grow, BorgWarner offers a wide range of products across almost all eMobility sectors, from battery systems to propulsion technologies, including electric motors, power electronics, and power management.
In Korea, BorgWarner operates eight production plants and technical centers, continuing its research and development efforts for mobility solutions.
Customer Needs
As a multinational company, BorgWarner recognized the importance of establishing an integrated platform for efficient management of its subsidiaries. To address this, BorgWarner initiated an SAP-based rollout project for its five Korean subsidiaries. The challenge was to provide functionalities that met the needs of each subsidiary while minimizing new development. This required maximizing the use of SAP's standard features to create a system that catered to the diverse environments of the subsidiaries.
Why Woongjin and the Solution were Chosen
Woongjin had extensive experience in SAP ERP implementation and management for its own global subsidiaries as well as other clients. With proven expertise in handling rollout projects for global brands, Woongjin was well-equipped to meet BorgWarner's needs. Additionally, Woongjin was already maintaining the SAP ERP system for SeohanWarner Turbo Systems, one of BorgWarner’s subsidiaries, demonstrating its ability to align with global headquarters’ standards while addressing the specific needs of Korean entities.
Results
Through the project, BorgWarner successfully implemented an SAP-based global standard system across its five Korean subsidiaries, creating a unified data-driven business operation environment. Additionally, the introduction of SAP Warehouse Management (WM) allowed for fully integrated operations from production to the shop floor. Notably, BorgWarner developed a system tailored to the automotive parts industry, implementing an origin management framework that enables compliance with FTA agreements. By assigning HS Codes to products and simulating origin determinations, the system helps mitigate trade risks and prepare for potential post-verification audits related to FTAs.
